How to fall back in love with marketing

Our Managing Director, Nicky Rudd, has been out and about over the past couple of weeks, talking to networking and business groups about how to fall back in love with marketing. In this blog, she shares some of her insider knowledge.

If you manage your marketing in-house, without a marketing specialist in place, it’s easy to get distracted, and for your marketing plan to fall by the wayside.

Marketing is where your leads come from, so it is a fundamental part of your overall business plan. Getting a return on your marketing investment is a great feeling – you can see the results coming in, and it helps you to be confident about your business strategy and approach.

So, the more enthusiasm you have for your marketing, the better! But we know that there are some foundations that need to be in place to get your marketing to a stage where you are both confident about it and really enjoying it.

Here are some of my top tips for balancing creativity and process to make marketing fun again.

Know where you’re heading

We’ve already talked about how great it is to see results from your marketing. But to be able to measure those results properly, you’ve got to know what your goals are. You don’t need a hundred goals – one or two will do, so you can focus your time and energy on what really matters.

Focus on your customer

The best thing about my business is the clients! I love working with them to help them achieve their goals and build their businesses. Focusing on doing great things for your customer is the key to loving your marketing. So, understand what they want, where they are in their journey to buying from you, and what will really delight them.

Don’t sweat the content

At Padua Communications, content is king. But you don’t have to spend hours panicking about your content. It’s usually right there at your fingertips – your daily business life, the questions your clients ask you most often, details about your product and service, trends in your marketplace and the great people you have in your team.

And the best thing? You can repurpose and repurpose this content, so once it’s created, it can go on working hard for you. If you’re stuck for content ideas and need some inspiration, book a Duo+ session with us. Full of tea and creativity, you will have a list of ideas following the session.

Make campaign planning easy

A campaign is designed to reach a certain target audience and produce an agreed result over a specific timeframe. You can read more here about successful campaign planning, and the top things I’d pull out are:

  • The channels you’ll use
  • The benefits to your audience of engaging with you
  • The assets and resources you have

Both regular marketing and campaigns are a great opportunity to get creative. Your messaging, your images, your offers, your approach – all of these can be specific to your campaign and can be a lot of fun to work up.

Blend this with the process of careful planning, consistent execution and relevant measuring, and I guarantee you’ll fall back in love with marketing again!
