Businesses in the local area looking to get their websites further up the Google search can now take advantage of modern sales and marketing techniques at affordable prices in a high quality, low cost workshop.

Developed and run by local businesswomen, Nicky Rudd from Padua Communications, a Surrey Young Business of the Year finalist and Wendy Chamier from Wendy Chamier eConsulting, the half day workshop is an introduction to PR and SEO and will focus on fundamental marketing and PR principles, website design and search engine optimisation (SEO).

Recent survey results revealed a lack of knowledge about SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) in the SME market, as well as highlighting that many UK businesses are unaware of the benefits of search optimisation.

  • 22% did not know what SEO was and therefore didn’t invest
  • 20% were aware of SEO yet chose not to allocate any budget for it
  • 18% chose to spend their money on paid search instead
  • Only 15% invested in search and considered it either an important or crucial part of their marketing strategy

Wendy Chamier says: “In the current economic climate, businesses are watching every penny. With the funding for Business Link being axed and the massive cuts in public spending, there is a real gap for high quality training that is affordable for local businesses in these tough times. After meeting at local networking events, we felt there was a real need and with our experience, we can offer practical guidance on a range of services at affordable prices.”

Nicky Rudd added: “In particular, to keep the local economy thriving, there is a real need for marketing, web design, SEO and sales training so that local businesses can stay in the black and at the forefront of both technology and techniques. Our workshop is jargon-free, run in small groups and we use the attendees’ existing websites as examples. We had superb feedback from the initial course we ran at the end of last year and are now working on our next offering!”

Trisha Woolfrey who runs PW Hynoptherapy attended the course in November. She said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the training with Wendy and Nicky – it was thought provoking, relevant and fun. I learnt some very useful tips to help me with my website.”

The workshop will offer practical support to help companies understand who their customers are, how they think and how their customers search for services online. It is aimed at individuals, start-ups new to the world of marketing & PR, website design and SEO, small business owners looking to adopt a more customer-focused marketing approach, and sales and marketing managers looking for a PR/SEO customer-based refresher workshop.

The workshop is being held at Hersham Place on the 17th of February 2011 from 2.00pm to 5.30pm.

It costs £120 plus VAT, and is discounted by 20 per cent to 96 for 4N, Athena, Ladies@11 and Elmbridge Women in Business networking members.
